This feature uses advanced algorithms to compare your DNA to a database of modern and ancient populations. By comparing your DNA to these populations, we are able to determine the genetic distance between you and these populations.

This can provide valuable insights into your origins and how your DNA is connected to different populations throughout history.

Archaic ancestry estimate

Premium report feature

The archaic ancestry estimate feature examines the extent to which an individual's genetic makeup contains DNA from ancient hominin species (Neanderthals, Denisovans, and African hominins). 

This is done by using a calculator which compares your DNA with that of reference samples from these archaic hominins, and calculating the proportion of shared genetic variants. 

Neanderthal and Denisovan ancestry is most commonly reported in non-African populations, while African hominin ancestry may be is most commonly detected in African populations. 

Principal component analysis

The principal component analysis (PCA) feature of our ancestry DNA reports is an innovative tool that visually represents the genetic similarities between you and various populations around the world. 

PCA is a statistical technique that involves transforming the complex genetic information into a smaller set of variables, called principal components, that capture the majority of the variation in the data. 

By plotting the individuals or populations in this reduced space, we can visualize their genetic relationships and similarities, and identify potential ancestry or admixture patterns.
